If the Shoe Fits

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy is $1.99! This came out in August and is a Cinderella-inspired retelling. It also has a reality show element. I’m very excited about this updated Disney princess series. The next one will be written by Jasmine Guillory and is a Beauty & the Beast retelling.

After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America’s favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion.

Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere. What she doesn’t expect? That she may just find inspiration—and love—in the process. Ultimately, Cindy learns that if the shoe doesn’t fit, maybe it’s time to design your own.

Ancillary Justice

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie is $2.99! know Carrie really loves this book (and the entire series, I believe). This is a KDD and I really love the new minimalist cover designs. Readers really loved the scifi world building, though some admitted wanting more action in the first book of the Imperial Radch series.

Winner of the Hugo, Nebula, British Science Fiction, Locus and Arthur C. Clarke Awards.
On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest.
Once, she was the Justice of Toren – a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy.
Now, an act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with one fragile human body, unanswered questions, and a burning desire for vengeance.

Not Even for a Duke

Not Even For a Duke by A.S. Fenichel is $2.99 at Amazon! It’s available elsewhere, but not at the sale price. This seems like it has lots of yearning and pining. It’s also the fourth book in the series.

Finishing school brought four young wallflowers together. The perils of London’s marriage market inspired a pact to protect each other for a lifetime…

Survivor of a hellish marriage, Aurora Sherborne, Dowager Countess of Radcliff, is determined to never be taken in by love. With the other Wallflowers married and starting families, her West Lane residence is empty and lonely. What’s missing is a child of her own, to raise and make her house a home. Intent on marrying only to have children, Aurora wants nothing to do with romantic attachments.

The newly minted Duke of Cowin, Garrett Winslow, has known Aurora all her life, and loved her nearly as long. Recently returned from his travels abroad, he’s certain the infatuation was left in the past, but upon seeing the now-widowed Aurora, those feelings come rushing back.

Maddeningly, Aurora regards him as nothing more than her brother’s best friend. Determined to make her his, Garrett will use every tender weapon to seduce her—and prove she’s worthy of true love.

The Checklist

The Checklist by Addie Woolridge is $1.99! This is another book that seems more like fiction with romance elements than a contemporary romance. Woolridge’s second book, The Bounce Back, has been mentioned on the site.

In an energetic debut novel about personal and professional chaos, author Addie Woolridge introduces a multicultural cast whose exploits are redefining the modern rom-com.

Killing it at work? Check. Gorgeous boyfriend? Check. Ambitions derailed by an insecure boss? Sigh—check.

Things were going a little too well for Dylan Delacroix. After upstaging her boss on a big account, she gets dispatched to the last place she wants to be: her hometown, Seattle. There, she must use her superstar corporate-consulting skills to curb the worst impulses of an impossibly eccentric tech CEO—if she doesn’t, she’s fired.

The fun doesn’t stop there: Dylan must also negotiate a ceasefire in the endless war between her bohemian parents and the straitlaced neighbors. Adding to the chaos is a wilting relationship with her boyfriend and a blossoming attraction to the neighbors’ smoking-hot son.

Suddenly Dylan has a million checklists, each a mile long. As personal and professional pressures mount, she finds it harder and harder to stay on track. Having always relied on her ability to manage the world around her, Dylan’s going to need a new plan. She may be down, but she’s definitely not out.
