Artemis Gordon
As a reminder, we will not be featuring any HarperCollins titles until a fair contract is negotiated with the HarperCollins Union. The Raven Spell The Raven Spell by Luanne G. Smith is $1.99 at Amazon! This is book one in a series that seems to combine fantasy, mystery, and historical settings. It’s been on my TBR pile since it came out earlier this year. In Victorian England a witch and a detective are on the hunt for a serial killer in an enthralling novel of magic and murder. After a nearly fatal blow to the skull, traumatized private detective Ian Cameron is found dazed and confused on a muddy riverbank in Victorian London. Among his effects: a bloodstained business card bearing the name of a master wizard and a curious pocket watch that doesn’t seem to tell time. To retrieve his lost memories, Ian demands answers from Edwina and Mary Blackwood, sister witches with a murky past. But as their secret is slowly unveiled, a dangerous mystery emerges on the darkened streets of London. To help piece together Ian’s lost time, he and Edwina embark on a journey that will take them from the river foreshore to an East End music hall, and on to a safe house for witches in need of sanctuary from angry mortals. The clues they find suggest a link between a series of gruesome murders, a missing person’s case, and a dreadful suspicion that threatens to tear apart the bonds of sisterhood. As the investigation deepens, could Ian and Edwina be the next to die? Add to Goodreads To-Read List → You can find ordering info for this book here. The Watchmaker of Filigree Street The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley is $3.99! This is historical fiction with a queer protagonist and some magical realism. Reviews on Goodreads say don’t expect to have all the book’s questions answered by the end of the book, though I think there’s a follow-up now. 1883. Thaniel Steepleton returns home to his tiny London apartment to find a gold pocket watch on his pillow. Six months later, the mysterious timepiece saves his life, drawing him away from a blast that destroys Scotland Yard. At last, he goes in search of its maker, Keita Mori, a kind, lonely immigrant from Japan. Although Mori seems harmless, a chain of unexplainable events soon suggests he must be hiding something. When Grace Carrow, an Oxford physicist, unwittingly interferes, Thaniel is torn between opposing loyalties. The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is a sweeping, atmospheric narrative that takes the reader on an unexpected journey through Victorian London, Japan as its civil war crumbles long-standing traditions, and beyond. Blending historical events with dazzling flights of fancy, it opens doors to a strange and magical past. Add to Goodreads To-Read List → You can find ordering info for this book here. The Gamble The Gamble by Kristen Ashley is $2.99! This is also the first book in her Colorado Mountain series, which seems to mostly be a contemporary romance with suspense elements. New readers of Ashley had a few minor complaints about getting used to her writing style, but overall people couldn’t get enough of the emotional rollercoaster set in a small, snowy town. Love is the greatest gamble of all… Nina Sheridan desperately needs a timeout vacation. With a fiancé who can’t even remember how she takes her coffee, Nina wants some distance to rethink her engagement. Flying halfway around the world from England to a mountain town in Colorado should do the trick. But when she finds a gorgeous man at her rental cabin, Nina’s cold, lonely adventure suddenly heats up. The owner of the house, Holden “Max” Maxwell is surprised by the beautiful woman who turns up at his door. But when Nina becomes ill, Max spends days nursing her back to health. A private man with a broken heart, Max finds himself drawn to the strong-willed woman. Soon it becomes impossible for Nina and Max to deny their growing attraction to one another. Yet even as these two wounded lovebirds think about taking a chance on a relationship, a dangerous secret from Max’s past emerges-and threatens to end their love for good.
