So here we are again, one year after my last Women in SFF list went up. Looking at how many amazing new books I read since then, I think I should have updated earlier! I have sorted them roughly by genre or style. Some of them would fit more than just that one tag, especially Dark and Non Western Setting which have a lot of overlap. I decided to put the grim ones into the Dark section as those definitely have their own target audience. Some of these authors were already on my list with other books, but I’ll add new (to me) titles that I read since then to any of my updates! I’m an audioholic, so I put a little ⊕ symbol next to the ones available as audiobook. So witho…

Welcome to the Fantasy Hive’s Read-along for Women in SFF! For our first ever Women in SFF Read-along, we held a Twitter poll to choose the book – and the book that one the majority of the votes was S. A. Chakraborty’s THE CITY OF BRASS! Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trade she uses to get by—palm readings, zars, healings—are all tricks, sleights of hand, learned skills; a means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles. But when Nahri accidentally summons an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior…

What were they?” Jdahya made a rustling noise that could have been a sigh, but that did not seem to come from his mouth or throat. “You are intelligent,” he said. “That’s the newer of the two characteristics, and the one you might have put to work to save yourselves. You are potentially one of the most intelligent species we’ve found, though your focus is different from ours. Still, you had a good start in the life sciences, and even in genetics.” “What’s the second characteristic?” “You are hierarchical. That’s the older and more entrenched characteristic. We saw it in your closest animal rel…

InCoHeReNt ScReAcHiNg A-hem… Today, I’m very (VERY) excited to reveal the cover for G D Penman’s final book in Witch of Empire trilogy: The Last Days of Hong Kong I can’t tell you how much I love this trilogy. Well I mean, I tried to, in my reviews for The Year of the Knife and The Wounded Ones. I am heart-broken that this will be our last adventure with Sully, so if you could all go out there and buy these books so Graeme will feel compelled to write more, I’d personally be very grateful to you. ANYWAY, let’s do the usual Cover Reveal stuff shall we? First up, the synopsis: In the aftermath of the war, Iona “Sully” Sullivan has lost everything; her job, her friends, …
