Welcome back to Cover Snark! There are definitely certain elements taking center stage today. http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/image-72-2.png From Karen: The Most Eligible Viscount in London by Ella Quinn (it’s a new book). As a whole, the cover is quite nice but I was struck by the very weird thumb on the hero’s hand. It looks like it would be longer than any of the other fingers. I think somebody did a very bad Photoshop and it’s kind of creepy. Her covers are frequently beautifully done by Jon Paul Ferrara but I don’t know who did this one. Sarah: “Oooh, pretty…is the thumb weird?” zooms in http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-c…

Is it time to get rec’d already?! If you missed the news a couple weeks ago, this is where I will be talking about some of the books I’ve recommend to fellow book lovers outside of Smart Bitches. For those of you who don’t know, I have a part time job as a bookseller and events coordinator for a local independent bookstore. Handselling is probably my favorite part of the job, where someone comes in looking for recommendations based on something they last read or particular genres they like to read. I also help with Book Riot’s TBR program, which gives out personalized recommendations on a subscription basis. So, if you’re curious about what I’m recommending to others i…

Finding Joy Finding Joy by Adriana Herrera is 99c! What a cute illustrated cover! This was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet and appears to be a stand alone and not part of any sort of series. Have you read this one? As his twenty-sixth birthday approaches, Desta Joy Walker finds himself in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the one place he’s been actively avoiding most of his life. For Desta, the East African capital encompasses some of the happiest and saddest parts of his life–his first home and the place where his father died. When an unavoidable work obligation lands…

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Fotolia_17773066_S.jpgWe are closing out September! Can you believe it? October is busy busy (for me at least), but hopefully we can all squeeze in some quality reading time. Sarah: I’m currently reading Payback’s a Witch ( A | BN | K ) and oh wow am I enjoying it so freaking much. Chasing and clever and beautiful bits of writing. Carrie: I just finished reading Praying With Jane Eyre( A | BN | K ) which I found to be transformative – truly one of those books that makes you look at everything differently. By Vanessa Zoltan. Elyse: I’ve been dealing with anxiety/tired brain so I’ve been going through my k…

Someone to Care Someone to Care by Mary Balogh is $1.99 and part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals! This is book four in the Westcott series and I thought there was a review for this one, but nope. Sometimes everything just blurs together. If you’re new to Balogh or count her as one of your faves, I highly recommend this guest post. The legendary New York Times bestselling author is back with a new Westcott novel about the dispossessed countess and wife of the late Earl of Riverdale, who throws all caution to the wind when adventure calls in the form of a handsome aristoc…

In our last collection of Patreon listener questions, we had two about the process of reviewing: what we look for, and what questions we’re trying to answer when we write a review. Shana joins Amanda and me to talk about the process of reviewing romance, how reviewing helps us identify what we most like to read, and how reading and review works for each of us as writers, and for me doing editorial oversight. Thank you to Patreon members Tara C. and Leslee for the very kind and thoughtful questions! … Music: Purple-planet.com Listen to the podcast → Read the transcript → Here are the books we discuss in this podcast: …

A Wicked Kind of Husband A Wicked Kind of Husband by Mia Vincy is $3.99! This features a married couple who wed out of convenience living two separate lives until they are forced back into each other’s proximity. I’ve heard really good things about this book and for a time, it was recommended a lot on social media. This the third book in a series and the others are this price as well. It was the ideal marriage of convenience…until they met Cassandra DeWitt has seen her husband only once—on their wedding day two years earlier—and this arrangement suits her perfectly. …

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/recleague.pngThis Rec League comes from Anne. Thanks, Anne! I have an odd request that may be too narrow for a Rec League, but I thought I would ask. I am looking for books that are set or partially set in New York State, outside of NYC/Long Island. I’m originally from Central New York and have family who live or lived throughout “upstate NY” and I enjoy books where I can visit familiar places. I have read and enjoyed Sara Donati’s Into the Wildersness family saga which is partially set in the Adirondacks, Julia Spencer Fleming’s mystery series set in Miller’s Kill, Maria Vale’s werewolf series (Adirondac…

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Depositphotos_52671211_original-300x200.jpgHappy Wednesday! September is almost on its way out. Can you believe it? I’m so ready for October. I love spooky season, maple and pumpkin themed treats, cooler temps, and breaking out all the fluffy blankets. I’m also getting tattoo #3 and attending a friend’s Halloween wedding. Pretty pumped! How about you? Are you ready for October? … This is from the L.A. Times so it may be behind a paywall, but I was able to read it before I hit my article limit. It’s about an obituary a brother wrote for his sister and yes, I did cry. You can see a tweet here for the gist…

More or Less a Marchioness More or Less a Marchioness by Anna Bradley is 99c! This is the first book in the Somerset Sisters series and came out just last month. Readers warn that it does take a while for the hero and heroine to finally interact, but once they do, it’s a pretty lovely romance. The Somerset sisters, three beautiful, headstrong debutantes in Regency London, are discovering that a bit of scandal is a delightful thing… For the sake of propriety, and her younger sisters’ reputations, Iris Somerset has kept her rebellious streak locked away. But though sh…
