Squee After Dark with the Duke by Julie Anne Long November 30, 2021 · Avon Historical: European CW: discussions of sexual harrassment and an instance of non-graphic sexual assault. Friends, I stayed up all night reading this book. And this was no ordinary night…I had just had surgery (with great results!) but the after effects of anesthesia (which usually leaves me super sleepy) were powerless in the face of this tremendous romance. Two foolish peers have fought a duel over an opera singer. The outcome? The object…

Devil in Disguise Devil in Disguise by Lisa Kleypas is $2.99! This is the seventh book in the Ravenels series and Catherine gave it a B-: Devil in Disguise is a low-stakes, sexy romance, with cameos from some of my favourite characters from the other Wallflowers and Ravenel stories. It did suffer from one significant flaw (don’t play the Our Love Is Doomed card if it will be thrown away halfway through the story). New York Times bestseller Lisa Kleypas returns with an enthralling and steaming romance between a widowed lady and a Scot on the run—who may have connectio…

I am already rec’d in preparation for today! By that, I mean I’m recovering from getting both my booster and flu shots yesterday. But the book recommendations shall still continue! It’s holiday season and at work, I’m getting a lot of requests like “My dad likes X, what would you suggest?” or “My teen reads Y, but I have no idea what’s new!” All of these books fall into comparison titles for genres or other authors. But enough about me, have you recommended a book to someone lately? Gotten a good rec yourself? Let me know! Chilling Effect This one is a recommendation I hold in my back pock…

Act Your Age, Eve Brown Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert is $1.99! It’s the third book in The Brown Sisters series, which we’ve all enjoyed at the site. Do you have a favorite of the three? Mine might be Take a Hint, Dani Brown. Eve Brown is a certified hot mess. No matter how hard she strives to do right, her life always goes horribly wrong—so she’s given up trying. But when her personal brand of chaos ruins an expensive wedding (someone had to liberate those poor doves), her parents draw the line. It’s time for Eve to grow up and prove herself—even though sh…

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/ElyseBachelorette-150x125.pngThis week, we’re down to eight dudes. Whoever gets a rose this week goes on to Hometowns where Michelle meets the guy’s family. Before we get to that, Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark broke up because this show’s premise is bullshit and doesn’t work 2. Tayshia is now hosting The Bachelorette and probably doesn’t need Zac in her life for sponsorship opportunities. http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/unnamed-1-e1637869813320.jpgPudding is not impressed Four of Michelle’s fifth grade students are joining her this week to help her weed out the men by g…

A This is a weird one, y’all. We’re taking a trip back to the early 80s where fiction for teens and pre-teens came with some awful, upsetting messaging, but also some fantastic clothing choices, some excellent descriptions of weird children’s birthday parties, a cute boy and a very good dog. It’s Princess Amy by Melinda Pollowitz! I figured I’d probably have to issue some warnings at some point, re-reading vintage YA, so here we are. TW/CW: assault, jerkward rich bros, disordered eating, and severe anti-fat bias. I want to know what you’d put in the epilogue to this book – please comment or email your ideas because I am desperate to fix this. … Music: purple-planet.co…

If the Shoe Fits If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy is $3.99! This came out in August and is a Cinderella-inspired retelling. It also has a reality show element. I’m very excited about this updated Disney princess series. The next one will be written by Jasmine Guillory and is a Beauty & the Beast retellng. After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America’s favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs fi…

B+ A Match Made for Thanksgiving by Jackie Lau October 8, 2019 · Jackie Lau Books Contemporary RomanceNovellaRomance Thanksgiving is a bit shorted in the romance world. I suppose this is because some people think that fighting with your family, consuming your body weight in pie, and entering a food coma are not romantic activities. To them I say…what kind of pie are we talking about here? After all, one of the most romantic lines in all of literary history refers to Thanksgiving – I refer of course to Rose saying “H…

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Depositphotos_52671211_original-300x200.jpgHey all! It’s the Links post before Thanksgiving! I know the holidays can be a tough time, so I hope that whatever your plans are, they are enjoyable and restorative for you. I definitely have some complicated feelings this year, as this is the first time in five years I won’t be spending it with my boyfriend’s (now ex, I suppose) large Italian family. But my roommate and I have made our own menu and divided dishes. I’m roasting a chicken, doing the stuffing, and making a sangria. She’s doing the mashed potatoes, some roasted Brussel sprouts, and making a molten c…

Role Model RECOMMENDED: Role Model by Rachel Reid is $2.99! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this sale! Lara wrote a Lightning Review for this one and gave it a B: If you haven’t read the others, you’ll be fine. And if you need an afternoon of quiet smiling into a book that hums with emotional sincerity and growth, then this is the book for you. Troy Barrett has been freshly traded to Ottawa after calling out Dallas Kent during a team practice. He wants to be a better person, and the weird, scrappy energy of the struggling Ottawa team seems like the place …

This HaBO request comes from Gloriamarie, who is looking for this contemporary romance: Sadly, I remember very little of this book I read within the last ten years. I’d like to read it again. All I remember is that the heroine loves high-top sneakers, has them in many colors, searches the Internet looking for colors she doesn’t have. The hero seeks to please her by trying to find unusual high-tops that she just might not have. This sounds very sweet! View the full article

The Beautiful Ones RECOMMENDED: The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno Garcia is $2.99! Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B+: The Beautiful Ones is a book that includes many genres, including fantasy, romance, manners, and just a little bit of Gothic. I enjoyed it more as a soap opera than a romance, but your mileage will vary depending on your interpretation of the characters. In a world of etiquette and polite masks, no one is who they seem to be. Antonina Beaulieu is in the glittering city of Loisail for her first Grand Season, where she will attend balls and m…

This HaBO is from Alexion, who is looking for a historical romance: I don’t remember a whole lot about this book, but I do remember that I picked it up in a library somewhere between 2010 and 2014. Don’t remember anything about the cover or title. The guy is an appointed executioner by whatever governing body controls the area. Thought it might be Gallow’s Pole by Eris Adderly because it fit a lot of the criteria, but it’s missing some key scenes from my fuzzy memory! Particularly the part where the lady is harassing the guy at his front door about stopping the execution. She tries bribing him, too, I think. And the scene where she actually goes to see the guy to-be-exe…
