Welcome back to Wednesday Links! How did we all do for Valentine’s Day? Just another day for some of you? I got a haircut and had a nice homemade dinner. My partner made bolognese and I made a chocolate souffle. All in all, not bad! I also cannot wait for February to be over. There is something about January and February that just drags for me. Anyone else? … The Salt Eaters Bookshop is throwing a Renaissance Rent Party to keep their doors open. They’re based in Inglewood, CA and need some extra help! … Sarah and I were interviewed about the popularity of Katee Robert for Paste Magazine. Definitely happy to see some sexier books getting mainstream attention. … Thi…

This HaBO comes from Sarah, who hopes to track down this book: I hope you can help this smart bitch out. I read a book in the last 20 years where the main character was trying to leave her husband. He had become so paranoid about dying that he carried a briefcase with a defibrillator in it. I could be misremembering what he carried in the briefcase, maybe he carried a fire extinguisher and he died of a heart attack? Either way, the main character was fed up with him and left and then he maybe died anyway. I know this sounds like a drama, but I remember it as a tragic-comedy. Definitely more women’s fiction than romance. And I want to say it was a British author, but I’…

Back in March 2021, librarian HeatherS emailed us about the Classics of Romance hardcover edition: I purchased this signed hardcover copy of Skye O’Malley by Bertrice Small about 3 years ago in a used bookstore. It was published in 1996. I thought it was an interesting and unusual edition and think it might have been a special order-by-mail book club of some kind. Any help you or the community can give me would be much appreciated. I’m sure this isn’t the only copy out there! Well, get ready, we have an update from Heather! I wanted to follow up with you on the Classics of Romance HaBO you posted for me a while back. I haven’t been able to find out anything else abou…

This Rec League is from Kay. Thanks, Kay! My catnip: books with two plots, relevant to each other, taking place in different time periods. An example would be Sarah Maine’s The House Between Tides or Kate Morton’s The Forgotten Garden. There’s usually a romantic element but they’re not necessarily romances. Sarah: Does Susanna Kearsley fit, I wonder? It’s dual time line but sometimes the characters cross over or between the timelines. But if this person loves pairs of storylines that parallel each other from distant time periods that’s Kearsley 100%. Nicola Cornick, too. The Phantom Tree would fit, and The Last Daughter of York. ( A | BN | K ) I just got an email abou…

A | BN | K Kelly Farmer is the author of the Out on the Ice series of hockey romances, and a former improvisational actor. We talk about cover artist magic, her series, and identify a few reason why hockey is such a popular setting for romances. Then we talk about how improvisational theatre exercises and techniques influence and improve writing. So if you’re stuck in your writing, maybe this will help. I also finally learn to say Megan Rapino’s name correctly. WIN! … This is one of the episodes I didn’t run due to the HarperCollins Union strike. Kelly Farmer and I recorded this episode in October 2022 in anticipation of her book Calling the Shots. I want to thank Ke…

Hello, everyone! Welcome back! How are we all doing? The Northeast had a bit of a winter storm, so that’s the biggest excitement on my end! Well…not true. We also discovered the washer/dryer unit we ordered wouldn’t fit up our stairs over the weekend. But it was an easy return and a new unit is installed. I’m so ready to wash EVERYTHING. I also picked up a new board game based on a friend’s recommendation: Dungeons, Dice & Danger. Have any of you played? She also recommend Railroad Ink, which may not be for me, but could be of interest to some of you. It reminds of me Ticket to Ride, but with more of a drawing/puzzle component. … Anything LeVar Burton related is u…
