Eclipse the Moon Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik is $1.99! This is book two in the Starlight’s Shadow series. Book three is out this summer. I remember reading book two, though found it heavier on action that romance. Kee Ildez has been many things: hacker, soldier, bounty hunter. She never expected to be a hero, but when a shadowy group of traitors starts trying to goad the galaxy’s two superpowers into instigating an interstellar war, Kee throws herself into the search to find out who is responsible—and stop them. Digging up hidden information is her job, so hun…

D The Secrets of Hartwood Hall by Katie Lumsden February 28, 2023 · Dutton Gothic The Secrets of Hartwood Hall is a traditional Gothic novel that suffers from uneven pacing and a lack of tension. While I was intrigued by some of the themes, overall the book was a bit of a drag to get through. Margaret Lennox is a young widow who is facing poverty after the death of her husband. A former governess, Margaret takes a job at the remote Hartwood Hall teaching ten-year-old Louis Eversham. Right away there are hints that…

This HaBO comes from First Lastly, who wants to find this romance: I’d like some help with a book title again. I discovered this book in my old junior high school library. It was popular then so this was around 2016-2018ish? All I can remember was that the title said something along the lines of ’ something something Cinderella’. And that the plot was something about a vampire dominated community where humans and vampires co-exist, but the vampires are more lords or royalty. Then the female main character somehow in need got talked into auctioning herself to be fed to a vampire: the male main character. I remember a scene where the MMC figured out she’s a computer geek …

The Boxing Baroness RECOMMENDED: The Boxing Baroness by Minerva Spencer is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. Carrie reviewed this and gave it B+: The more grounded in history the novel was, the more I liked it. For instance, I enjoyed seeing how Marianne trained every day. However, people with more patience for plot than I will love the same increasing complications that just made me want to take a nap. There’s something here for everyone and I look forward to the next book, The Dueling Duchess. Inspired by the real-life Boxing Baroness, acclaimed author Minerva Sp…

This Rec League comes from Allison. Thanks, Allison! I am wondering if you can recommend any romance books featuring unions, labour organizing, or similar? Thanks! Tara: Hoosier Daddy by Ann McMan and Salem West has that! Amanda: Isn’t there a Milan with one? Sarah: Rose Lerner has one. I’m pretty sure Sweet Disorder ( A | BN | K | G | AB ) is the one I’m thinking of, though that’s election organizing The Duchess War for sure. And of course North and South Doesn’t The Hellion’s Waltz by Olivia Waite have organizing in it? And the Carrie Lofty one with the gorgeous cover that’s not the gorgeous ob/gyn exam Starlight! The hero has to make a mill profitable and th…

This Rec League comes from Frances. Thanks, Frances! I am wondering if anyone can recommend romances or not-depressing books where a main character has vaginismus? I’ve been working through vaginismus with my ob-gyn and a physical therapist (and very thoughtful and supportive partner) with the goal of penetration. While it doesn’t bother me to read books where penetration is easy and straightforward and there are a lot of non-penetrative sex scenes out there, I do wish once in a while I could read a sex scene where someone has vaginismus that is not ultimately about trauma. I’m specifically looking for representation in romance novels but at this point, any fiction that …

This HaBO is from Sam, who is hoping to track down this romance: I am trying to remember a book that feels like it should be easy, but there are so many books that feature these tropes & archetypes in this setting that I can’t get it. So…contemporary: cis-het; mostly, if not all, white characters; low-to-medium heat level (I think). Small-ish town, male main character is a first responder (more likely sheriff/deputy, but maybe EMT/firefighter); female main character either returned after being away or new to town. I am *pretty* certain the book opens with him finding her large-ish dog running loose (possibly having a close call with a vehicle?). As I recall, she d…

Welcome back to another edition of Get Rec’d! Definitely have a focus of fantasy this time. However, there is some variety here. I have a graphic novel, a mystery, and more. Sometimes I have a better mix of genres and other times, I consult my notes and the last four books I jotted down are all within the same genre. Have any of you gotten some good book recs since the last Get Rec’d? Share them below! A Winter’s Promise I’d say this one works well for a crossover fantasy novel between adult and young adult. Originally written in French, this translation features floating kingdoms and a ma…

A+ A Dreadful Splendor by B.R. Myers August 23, 2022 · William Morrow Paperbacks Historical: European Sometimes a blurb is so horribly misleading that it does a book a disservice. Certainly the blurb for this book is unhelpful at best. By describing things as ‘ghoulishly fun’ and ‘wickedly whimsical’, it’s clear that the person who wrote the blurb did not, in fact, read the book. There was no ‘whimsical fun’ for me in this book. But there was a lot of absolute brilliance though. This Gothic tale feel…
