Welcome back to Wednesday Links! It’s definitely a week where I barely know what day it is. It’s supposed to get pretty hold in New England. I live in an old apartment and the heat isn’t the greatest, so my old cat Linus will be coming with me this weekend to my partner’s place. They have amazing heat and my partner is very excited for a kitty sleepover. It’s also February and we all know what that means. Every year, I feel like I need to issue a reminder to take deep breaths before rage commenting on whatever romance genre think piece starts making the rounds on social media. Stay vigilant, but maintain your peace! … There’s a DC comics line titled Harley Quinn Roman…

This HaBO comes from Elizabeth. Content warning for the description below: This mystery book has haunted me for around 20 years now. Here’s what I remember about this historical romance: The village and the heroine are attacked by an enemy. She is raped, gets pregnant, and loses the baby. Meanwhile, the hero’s wife/mistress has died, leaving behind a newborn baby. A perfect pairing, no? She nurses the baby, and at one point, the baby was so cold it was turning blue, so the heroine put the baby in the bodice of her dress against her skin. The hero finds them that way and their romance begins. I really wish I could remember more details! But those are the ones that stuc…

A Desperate Fortune A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley is $2.99! Like Kearsley’s other books, it has strong romantic elements and dual timelines. Many readers loved Sara, a woman who is on the Autism spectrum and takes a job as a codebreaker, but other readers found the book took a while to get going. Are you a Kearsley fan? The highly anticipated, brand-new timeslip romance from New York Times bestselling author Susanna Kearsley For nearly 300 years, the mysterious journal of Jacobite exile Mary Dundas has lain unread-its secrets safe from prying eyes. Now, ama…

Hi all! I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already! In exciting, personal news, my partner and I are moving in together. Our lease was supposed to start April 1st but things happened and now we’re moving March 1st. The next Links post will be compiled from our new place! Definitely equal parts excited and stressed. It’s also supposed to get icy in New England. I wish I could say I’m surprised, but late February and early March always has a way of reminding me that winter isn’t quite over. I remember one year it snowed on my birthday, which is mid-April! How is everyone else? I would love to hear any exciting news you all have on the horizon. … We are overjoyed to hear th…

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/themes/smartbitches/images/posts/hide-your-wallet.jpg If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this will help us feature books from smaller publishers who don’t have buy links up as early as the bigger trade houses. As always, if we missed any books that you’…

By the Book By the Book by Jasmine Guillory is $2.99! This could be a leftover deal from the Kindle Daily Deals of yesterday, so apologies if this one goes rather quickly. This is a Beauty and the Beast inspired contemporary romance and we’ve had the cover on Cover Awe before. A tale as old as time—for a new generation… Isabelle is completely lost. When she first began her career in publishing right out of college, she did not expect to be twenty-five, living at home, still an editorial assistant, and the only Black employee at her publishing house. Overworked and un…

Hi all! It’s Wednesday! I am very tired. My partner and I made a lot of expensive, adult purchases over the weekend for the new place. I am, however, very excited to actually have a decor theme for rooms instead of a hodge podge of furniture I’ve had for over a decade. My old cat, Linus, did some crawl space exploring. You can see him here, looking absolutely filthy. All in all, things went smoothly! Now we’re just in the purgatory of unpacking. How are you all? … Thanks to EC Spurlock for sending this link along! Over a dozen newly discovered Terry Pratchett stories are slated to publish this year! Let’s all rejoice! … Kathy Bates is set to star in a reboot of Mat…

This HaBO comes from Nikki, who wants to track down this romance: I’ve been obsessed wih one book whose title or author I can’t remember! So hopefully you can all help me! It’s a historical romance. The heroine is approached for a marriage of convenience. They elope, but her father does not give her dowry. They go to a property in shambles (spent the first night sharing a blanket in the cold somewhere). He starts horse breeding and slowly they build a business and fall in love. She leaves him because she thinks he cheats on her and he comes back to find her at her parents’ place, during a ball I think. She is pregnant. Her name might be Amelia – but I might be wrong as…

This HaBO is from Linnea, who is looking for this historical romance. The request does deal with a pandemic as a warning: This is extremely vague. Not sure when I read this book, I don’t remember the author, and so on. I have been reading romance novels for at least 50 years… The main thing I remember is that it takes place in or near New Mexico at a mission and takes place in 1918 because there is an influenza epidemic that plays an important part in the book. I think the heroine is a teacher, maybe at the mission school? Another woman comes to the place to teach, but she brings illness with her and suddenly everyone gets sick. The heroine implements good sanitation an…
