It’s sharing time! Over the past few years, we’ve shared different versions of this reading tracking spreadsheet and each year it’s been improved by one of you! And I’ve received so many email messages and requests for more options from readers who absolutely adore it. This past few years has been a difficult one for reading for many people. Sometimes reading was all I wanted to do, and sometimes I struggled to get into a book. I still used my tracking spreadsheet, though, and adding new titles gave me a little boost every time. The value of keeping up with my reading tracking each year is that it helps me maintain two habits that I value: Logging my reading each wee…

A Lady Awakened RECOMMENDED: A Lady Awakened by Cecilia Grant is $2.99! This book is often recommended in terms a sex-positive heroine. However, other readers found the heroine’s view of sex to be rather unromantic. I feel like this is one of the more divisive romances; people either seem to love it or hate it. In Cecilia Grant’s emotionally rich and deeply passionate Regency romance debut, a deal with a rumored rogue turns a proper young woman into . . . A Lady Awakened. Newly widowed and desperate to protect her estate and beloved servants from her malevolent broth…

It’s time for The Bachelor, everyone! I could be doing more fun things, like taxes or getting a pap smear, but Pudding and I are here to serve you! Pudding: Whatever. Wake me up when this nonsense is done. We’re in Tallinn, Estonia. The ladies walk around clapping their hands and yelling, “Where are ya Zach?” like he’s a lost dog. We learn Greer has covid but is asymptomatic so she’s isolating. Charity gets a one-on-one date to make up for missing out on hers last week. I really love how the women become friends on this show. When Charity comes out in her date outfit one of them says, “You look amazing in green!” Someone else says, “You smell so good!” Weirdly…

A | BN | K Not all contemporary romances are romcoms, but many are, and Melonie Johnson joins me this week to talk about both, and about her new romcom, Too Wrong to Be Right. She too wrote a character who works in the funeral industry, so we talk a bit about that, too! The talk about different burial options and discussion of the funeral industry starts at 14 minutes in. We also touch on burnout in the publishing industry, and grieving the professional relationships that are lost. Stay tuned for a future episode, because Melonie is going to join me to take a deep dive into a book we coincidentally were both reading, a nonfiction called All the Living and the Dead by Ha…

Hello, everyone! Welcome back! Spring has sprung in New England, at least for now. I’ve experience snow days in mid-April, so I know not to get too comfortable. Tonight, I’ll be playing pub trivia! I haven’t done that in so long and I’m excited to get together with some of my dear friends. We’re also reconvening our D&D sessions this Sunday! We put them on pause for the holidays and for moving apartments. Hopefully my dice rolls aren’t too rusty. If you’re into board games, my friend recommended Dungeons, Dice and Danger. You roll dice to progress through a dungeon, though people can make different pairs equaling different sums to guide their characters down differ…

Hey all! It’s time for Cover Snark! From Melodie: Unfortunately the hero the mountain got was Three Nipple Man. Sarah: I see so many patterns. What do they MEAN? Tara: Is this man going to fuck a mountain? Sneezy: The mountain called. It asked him to please don’t. Amanda: What a strange personal ad title. Amanda: There’s a lot going on here and I’m not sure I like any of it. Though I’m not mad at the Oded Fehr from The Mummy vibes I’m getting. Elyse: Love how his armor covers his nipple, but leaves his entire stomach vulnerable. Sarah: Savage in the Touch. Chafing in the Armpit. Shana: Is that a Tribble glued to his chest? Amanda: He needs some aloe vera a…

So much of her show and this conversation center on how to address sexual satisfaction in your own life. A Holiday Heroine by Sarah Kuhn August 30, 2022 · DAW Science Fiction/Fantasy Ed. note: This was intended to run in January but due to a snafu on our end, it didn’t publish. So, holiday romance? Sure! All year long, right! … I’m a firm believer that there is no such thing as an objective review. If there IS such a thing, let me tell you up front that this review is not objective in the slightest. One of the first things I wrote for this site was a review of One Con Glory by Sarah Kuhn, and I procee…

A | BN | K Melissa Blue tweeted that she wanted to talk about Spare. So did I! So, we did! We talk about the book itself, but we also look at the book from our perspective as romance readers and writers, and also as a larger narrative about dismantling propaganda. As Melissa points out, narratives constructed around Meghan and Harry echo narratives we’ve seen about other people, especially women, in public life who are subjected to propaganda to undermine them. I talk a lot about how dismissing romance ignores a lot of what romance says and does, and what it represents about people, about sexuality, and about relationships. I think the same is true about celebrity narra…

After a night of snow and wind followed by freezing rain, Pudding and I are ready to snuggle down under our favorite blankets and watch The Bachelor. Pudding may have had hit the nip a little hard. Pudding: Wake me up when this is over. Tonight everyone is in London and, apparently, crying. As you read the recap, it’s worth remembering that they allegedly keep the cast super sleep deprived to accommodate the filming schedule and also, I suspect, ramp up the drama. The first one-on-one date goes to Gabi. They create a custom perfume together and then try on hats and tiaras. They also get to meet a bunch of corgis although they are not actually the late queen’s corgi…
