I received an email from K, who asked, “I was wondering if you could do a TV show or Movie recommendation list. I have a few shows I’d like to share and I’m looking for new ones to try.” Yes, we can! We love to know what you’re reading but I’m also curious about what you’re watching! I’ve started a “watch list” in our family discord server to drop links to and titles of shows we might want to watch. Currently at the top of our queue: Derry Girls Only Murders in the Building, Season 2 Knives Out Blown Away – the Netflix glass blowing reality show It’s tricky because the overlap of “shows I want to watch” and “shows Adam wants to watch” isn’t very large, and also, t…

It’s sharing time! Over the past few years, we’ve shared different versions of this reading tracking spreadsheet and each year it’s been improved by one of you! And I’ve received so many email messages and requests for more options from readers who absolutely adore it. This past few years has been a difficult one for reading for many people. Sometimes reading was all I wanted to do, and sometimes I struggled to get into a book. I still used my tracking spreadsheet, though, and adding new titles gave me a little boost every time. The value of keeping up with my reading tracking each year is that it helps me maintain two habits that I value: Logging my reading each wee…

Jeevani Charika writes romcoms and women’s fiction about smart women and nice guy heroes, some of whom happen to be South Asian. She also writes romcoms as Rhoda Baxter. Her latest is Picture Perfect. Jeevani can be found on her website or on Twitter (@rhodabaxter). … I asked ChatGPT to outline a Christmas romcom – here’s what happened. There’s been quite a lot of interest in ChatGPT and some talk about how it’s going to replace writers. Someone has even self published a picture book using text and images entirely generated through AI bots (ChatGPT and DallE). The AI uses what was written before to work out structure, tropes and common elements and then spins them int…

This HaBO request is from K, who is looking for this romance: Long time lurker here— I’m looking for a contemporary story about a marriage imploding. The only thing I can remember is that the wife discovers her husband’s infidelity, packs his clothes, takes them to his office where she proceeds to barge into a meeting, throws the clothes on the table and tell her husband’s lover (and boss) that she can have him! For some reason I seem to remember that the couple reconcile, the lover/boss leaves the company (maybe the husband too?) Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for your help. Let’s HaBO! Eighteen years ago, on 31 January 2005, Smart Bitches began. The site launched with a review for Angel-Seeker by Sharon Shinn and for The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann. Zero plans and strategy beyond, “Let’s talk about romance fiction critically and enthusiastically,” and holy cow. We’re still here. Literally, every year when I file the annual reports and taxes and all that business business, I look around my office and think, “Yup, still here.” Still talking about romance, still enthusiastic, still interacting with readers around the world. Thank you. The site wouldn’t be here without you. Our community is welcoming new readers, helping people find the books they…

Welcome back to Get Rec’d! There’s a bit of an eclectic mix for this edition. We have a couple non-fiction titles, a mystery, and some urban fantasy with kooky vampires. My personal favorite of the bunch below (spoilers!) is the nature title, How Far the Light Reaches. How about you? Get any good book recs lately? Blackwater Falls For readers who love a police procedural, but are searching for a more diverse cast. From critically acclaimed author Ausma Zehanat Khan, Blackwater Falls is the first in a timely and powerful crime series, introducing Detective Inaya Rahman. Girl…
