It’s April and time for our first Whatcha Reading of the month! Lara: I’ve fallen back into the comfort provided by a familiar series: Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter novels. ( A | BN | K | G | AB ) I’ve got to be in the right frame of mind for them, but when I am, they hit the sweet spot. Sneezy: I’m re-reading the webtoon North x Northwest about a cross dressing pirate. It’s been on hiatus for a long ass time, and now the second season is finally coming back at the end of April! A | BN | KThe artist has changed though, and I don’t know what happened. I really hope the original artist is okay, exploitation of artists in the webtoon industry is rampant. Susan: I’m still …

The Boxing Baroness RECOMMENDED: The Boxing Baroness by Minerva Spencer is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. Carrie reviewed this and gave it B+: The more grounded in history the novel was, the more I liked it. For instance, I enjoyed seeing how Marianne trained every day. However, people with more patience for plot than I will love the same increasing complications that just made me want to take a nap. There’s something here for everyone and I look forward to the next book, The Dueling Duchess. Inspired by the real-life Boxing Baroness, acclaimed author Minerva Sp…

Storm Echo Storm Echo by Nalini Singh is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and book six in the Psy Changeling Trinity series. I think you could fill in the blanks and read it as a standalone, but it’s probably a richer experience to read the entire series in order. NYT bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us into the hearts of two fractured people in a world on the brink of a psychic Armageddon . . . Silence has fallen. The Psy are free to feel emotion. Free to love. But Silence was never a prison for Ivan Mercant. The biggest threat to his future lies dormant in h…

This Rec League comes from Allison. Thanks, Allison! I am wondering if you can recommend any romance books featuring unions, labour organizing, or similar? Thanks! Tara: Hoosier Daddy by Ann McMan and Salem West has that! Amanda: Isn’t there a Milan with one? Sarah: Rose Lerner has one. I’m pretty sure Sweet Disorder ( A | BN | K | G | AB ) is the one I’m thinking of, though that’s election organizing The Duchess War for sure. And of course North and South Doesn’t The Hellion’s Waltz by Olivia Waite have organizing in it? And the Carrie Lofty one with the gorgeous cover that’s not the gorgeous ob/gyn exam Starlight! The hero has to make a mill profitable and th…

All the Feels All the Feels by Olivia Dade is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance and the second book in the Spoiler Alert series. It was also just recommended by Shana in our recent Rec League on Book-Long Grovels. Following Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade returns with another utterly charming romantic comedy about a devil-may-care actor—who actually cares more than anyone knows—and the no-nonsense woman hired to keep him in line. Alexander Woodroe has it all. Charm. Sex appeal. Wealth. Fame. A starring role as Cupid on TV’s biggest show, God of the Gates. But the show…

If you haven’t heard, UK book-tailer Book Depository is closing. The news was announced on their Twitter account and elsewhere: BookRiot reported that this closure may likely be part of Amazon’s plans to eliminate 18,000 jobs. Book Depository was acquired by Amazon in 2011. As someone who is often in the camp of coveting UK covers, I’m sad to see this news. Book Depository was unique: they were a reliable source of UK editions, shipped quickly, and had a great selection. I know many of you were frequent shoppers there, too. Here are a few UK covers I’ve added to my own personal library. I preferred the bright color palette of this one with its pinks and golds of…

A Restless Truth A Restless Truth by Freya Marske is $2.99! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this deal. Fingers crossed it’s still good! This one was mentioned in a Hide Your Wallet and I’ve heard nothing but good things. Magic! Murder! Shipboard romance! The second entry in Freya Marske’s beloved The Last Binding trilogy, the queer historical fantasy series that began with A Marvellous Light The most interesting things in Maud Blyth’s life have happened to her brother Robin, but she’s ready to join any cause, especially if it involves magical secrets that…

This HaBO is from Melissa, who wants to track down this Harlequin historical romance: This was a Harlequin Historical Romance (America in the 1700s / 1800s) published in the mid- to late-nineties. I got it with my Harlequin Historicals subscription. The main female character starts the story as a waitress in a bar or inn where a letter had been sent looking for a wife/mother for a family with a lot of kids. She quit her job, went to the location in the letter (which was a ranch in the middle of nowhere), and found out that the kids sent the letter, not the father. He was very unhappy that she was there, but couldn’t turn her away. She stays with them and cleans the hous…

A- Partners in Crime by Alisha Rai October 4, 2022 · Avon Romantic Suspense I have a terrible memory for books. While it makes rereading a joy, things get tricky if I don’t write my review immediately after reading the book. But not in this case. With one thing after another, I’m only sitting down to write this review a good long while after I read the book, and the plot is crystal clear in my memory. This is a testament to two things: 1. The skill with which it was written 2. It’s originality. I ado…

A Rip Through Time A Rip Through Time by Kelley Armstrong is $2.99! This is a time travel mystery and with Armstrong’s mysteries, there’s usually a romantic subplot to go along with it. Can anyone who’s read this confirm? Amazon also says this is a limited time deal, so it could expire soon! n this series debut from New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, a modern-day homicide detective finds herself in Victorian Scotland—in an unfamiliar body—with a killer on the loose. Sarah: This is absolutely adorable. Elyse: Now I’m so hungry. Cover art by Leni Kauffman Amanda: I secretly hope the highlander one is a butch lady! But I’m loving all the greens and blues. Welcome back to another edition of Get Rec’d! Definitely have a focus of fantasy this time. However, there is some variety here. I have a graphic novel, a mystery, and more. Sometimes I have a better mix of genres and other times, I consult my notes and the last four books I jotted down are all within the same genre. Have any of you gotten some good book recs since the last Get Rec’d? Share them below! A Winter’s Promise I’d say this one works well for a crossover fantasy novel between adult and young adult. Originally written in French, this translation features floating kingdoms and a ma…

Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this will help us feature books from smaller publishers who don’t have buy links up as early as the bigger trade houses. As always, if we missed any books that you’…

The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes RECOMMENDED: The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! Carrie gave it a B+: This book succeeds in that it gives an irresistible couple in sweet, goofy Rob and grumpy Marian. I adored this couple for their ability to think outside the box, their easy and complete acceptance of each other, and their banter. Cat Sebastian returns to Georgian London with a stunning tale of a reluctant criminal and the thief who cannot help but love her. Marian Hayes, the Duchess of Clare, just shot her husband. Of course, the evil, …

The Proposal The Proposal by Mary Balogh is $1.99! This is the first book in her Survivor’s Club series, which is a favorite amongst the Bitchery. Readers loved the hero, Hugo, but I’ve never felt particularly moved to pick one up. Balogh fans, what do you love about her books? In Mary Balogh’s engaging and seductive new novel of drama and romance, a woman comfortable in her solitude allows temptation to free her heart, when a daring war hero shows her how truly extraordinary she is. THE PROPOSAL Gwendoline, Lady Muir, has seen her share of tragedy, especially since…
