The Warlord Wants Forever The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole is $1.99! There is some contention about whether this is the true first book of the series or if it’s more like 0.5 in the series because of its shorter length. If I remember correctly, the story was actually in an anthology first and, truthfully, you can read the other books without having read this one. I am such a fan of this series, but it’s very early 2000s PNR flair. The most recently in the series, Wicked Abyss, which is my favorite so far is also on sale. The Warlord Wants Forever…the sensuall…

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ElyseBachelor-150x125.pngWe ended last episode with The Dreaded Rose Ceremony and Sarah almost fainting. When we open up the ceremony has been delayed and Sarah is being tended to by a medic. The other women are annoyed with her because they think she faked it or worked herself up so she could get more alone time with Matt. In their defense, she does walk around talking about her vision going black which seems like a thing you should sit down for. I fainted once and I don’t think I was very ambulatory during the process. When the Rose Ceremony resumes Matt sends home Marylynn, Alana, Illeana, Kristen and S…

C- Her Kind of Cowboy by Dylann Crush January 12, 2021 · Berkley Romance Her Kind of Cowboy, from the Tying the Knot in Texas series, promises pit bulls and penguins, and it delivers on the pit bulls and somewhat on the penguins. What it does not deliver is a plausible, coherent, consistent storyline or plausible, in depth character development. Don’t get me wrong, I found it highly entertaining, but a large amount of my entertainment came from pondering the many odd things about it (and a couple of troubling things…

Fireworks Fireworks by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is the sixth book in Bowen’s True North series. I’ve enjoyed this series, but haven’t made it quite this far. If you’ve ever been curious about it, the first book is FREE! I also reviewed it and found the series to be great on audio. Skye Copeland is on paid leave from her broadcasting job after accidentally drawing a pecker on the traffic map. Let that sink in. Like it’s her fault the traffic pattern that day created a perfect schlong? Skye isn’t laughing. She needs this job. And that’s the only reason she’s agreed t…

This HaBO is from Carrie, who is searching for this historical romance. And oof, it sounds a bit dark: I’m looking for a book I read in my early teens (probably early to mid 90s). It was a Viking themed book. The main character was a woman captured as a slave and was trying to protect her siblings (I think). She also desperately wanted to be a skald but of course “women don’t do that!” I also remember vivid descriptions of her starving before she was bought (maybe won in a bet?) by her hero Viking. He of course was the captain of a ship. Sound familiar? View the full article

Second Chance on Cypress Lane Second Chance on Cypress Lane by Reese Ryan is $1.99! This sale is good through the 24th. Sarah had Reese on the podcast recently and notes that this book contains lots of food porn and jazz porn. Have you read this one? In this heartwarming second-chance romance, a woman returns home and discovers that, when it comes to finding love, there’s no place like home. When a romance gone wrong lands reporter Dakota Jones in the pages of the tabloids, her rising star crashes and burns. Instead of getting the weekend anchor job she’d been promis…

Final Fantasy VIII Square Enix Squee Not a Book If I had to pick one video game that had the most significant combined impact on me as a gamer and a romance reader, it has to be Final Fantasy VIII. FFVIII is essentially a romance novel in RPG video game form and it had an indelible impact in making me love tropes that are STILL major catnip for me, like settings that combine science fiction and magic elements, political intrigues, girls dealing with possibly world-destroying supernatural powers, found family, and romance between a fun, sweet person a…

Today’s Kindle Daily Deals are so damn good! Seriously, check them out. Here are four from the list that we’ve reviewed and loved. Spoiler Alert RECOMMENDED: Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade is $3.99! Shana reviewed this one in October and gave it a B+: Spoiler Alert is tropey wish fulfillment, but at its heart, it’s is a quiet contemporary with a #couplegoals relationship where both characters offer comfort, create beautiful art, and help each other overcome insecurities. Spoiler Alert is also a love lett…

B The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins January 5, 2021 · St. Martin's Press Mystery/Thriller Jane Eyre is in my top ten favorite books and I’m very protective of it. I wrote a short book called Pride Prejudice and Popcorn: TV and Film Adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, and Jane Eyre, in which I concluded that any adaption can work as long as it stays true to the themes and characters of the source material. The Wife Upstairs is hard to review because how it works on its own and as an adaptation de…

Borrowed Souls Borrowed Souls by Chelsea Mueller is $1.99! I thought this urban fantasy was incredibly original, though it does suffer from your typical first-book-in-an-urban-fantasy growing pains. But I really loved the heroine! Callie Delgado always puts family first, and unfortunately her brother knows it. She’s emptied her savings, lost work, and spilled countless tears trying to keep him out of trouble, but now he’s in deeper than ever, and his debt is on Callie’s head. She’s given a choice: do some dirty work for the mob, or have her brother returned to her in …

http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/WP/wp-content/themes/smartbitches/images/posts/hide-your-wallet.jpg If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this will help us feature books from smaller publishers who don’t have buy links up as quickly as the big five. As always, if we missed any books that you’re partic…

A | BN | K | AB I have been so excited to share this interview. Devon Price is the author of Laziness Does Not Exist, which outlines the three main ways in which “the Laziness Lie” deceives us into denying ourselves rest and care. As I said in my review, this is a book with something for everyone: it addresses historical roots of laziness lie in colonialism and capitalism, and looks at productivity myths, diet culture, gender and sexuality, activism fatigue, parenting, relationship management, and self-abuse. Also, Dr. Price has a chinchilla and you must hear us talk about its name. … Music: purple-planet.com Listen to the podcast → Rea…

Jade City Jade City by Fonda Lee is $2.99! This adult fantasy novel incredibly violent, according to reviews. But readers loved the world building and threads of mythology weaved into the story. To be honest, the book sounds intense and awesome. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. JADE CITY is a gripping Godfather-esque saga of intergenerational blood feuds, vicious politics, magic, and kungfu. The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It’s the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the…
